Types of Workplace Harassment We Handle

Harassment takes many forms, and California law covers all of them. Whatever you’ve experienced, an experienced workplace harassment attorney will take it seriously and act quickly before the record fades.

Hostile Work Environment

Ongoing slurs, comments, images, or intimidation that make work unbearable can be illegal harassment and a single severe incident can qualify too. As your work harassment lawyer, we document the full pattern, not just one moment.

Quid Pro Quo Harassment

When a raise, a promotion, or your job itself is tied to tolerating advances, that’s textbook quid pro quo. These cases hinge on proof of the demand a sexual harassment lawyer moves quickly to secure it.

Sexual Harassment & Assault

Unwanted touching, propositions, or coercion at work are never acceptable and never your fault. Our workplace sexual harassment lawyers pursue every responsible party the harasser and the employer who enabled them.

Retaliation for Reporting

Being demoted, isolated, or fired after reporting harassment is a separate violation with its own damages. An employee harassment lawyer holds employers accountable for both the harassment and the payback.

Third-Party & Customer Harassment

Employers must protect you from harassment by clients, vendors, patients, or customers not just coworkers. If they knew and did nothing, they’re liable. A workplace harassment attorney holds them to that duty.

Digital & Remote Harassment

Harassment over email, Slack, texts, or video calls is just as illegal as in person. Remote work is no shield for an employer. We preserve the digital trail before it can be deleted.

This team made my first attorney experience easier than I expected. They were quick with any updates. I hardly had to call them first because they were always on top of my case. Will and his teammates were always very kind and polite. They always made time for my questions and concerns. I would definitely recommend them to my friends and family because I know they will be treated with the same courtesy and care.

William Graves and Soheil Bahari helped me win my case. They helped set up doctor appointments when I didn't have the mindset to look for a doctor for my injures. Thanks Lyfe Law

California Workplace Harassment Lawyer

Harassment doesn’t have to be physical, and it doesn’t have to be sexual, to be illegal. Under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act, conduct becomes unlawful when it’s severe or pervasive enough to alter your working conditions. Employers are strictly liable when a supervisor is the harasser, and liable for coworker harassment they knew about and failed to stop. A workplace harassment attorney preserves the evidence, protects you from retaliation, and holds the company responsible in most cases at no cost to you unless we win.

What Counts as Illegal Harassment

  • Repeated unwelcome comments, jokes, messages, or images of a sexual or demeaning nature
  • A supervisor tying your job, hours, or advancement to tolerating advances
  • Unwanted touching, blocking, or physical intimidation
  • Slurs or hostility aimed at your race, gender, religion, age, disability, or orientation
  • Being punished, sidelined, or fired after you objected or reported it
  • HR knowing about the conduct and doing nothing to stop it

California's Harassment Filing Deadlines

Under FEHA you have three years from the last incident of harassment to file a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, and once your right-to-sue letter is issued, one year to file a lawsuit. For ongoing harassment, the clock runs from the most recent incident. Government employers require a claim within six months. Reporting early also strengthens your case, so it’s best not to wait.

What Compensation Can I Recover?

You may recover lost wages and benefits if the harassment cost you your job, along with emotional distress damages for the harm you endured. Where the employer acted with malice or oppression or ignored complaints punitive damages and your attorney’s fees may also be awarded under FEHA.

Why Employers Fear Trial-Ready Attorneys

Companies count on victims staying quiet and firms settling cheap. LyfeLaw maintains a full trial team with 18+ licensed attorneys. When an employer knows we’ll put the conduct in front of a jury, the calculation changes because a jury decides what the harassment truly cost you.

Workplace & Sexual Harassment FAQs

What does a workplace harassment lawyer do?
A workplace harassment lawyer determines whether the conduct you faced crosses the legal line, preserves the evidence, protects you from retaliation, and pursues your employer for damages. LyfeLaw handles reporting strategy, filing with the Civil Rights Department, and litigation.
Not every unpleasant boss is breaking the law. Harassment becomes illegal when it’s based on a protected trait and is either severe (even a single serious act) or pervasive enough to change your working conditions. A work harassment lawyer can tell you quickly which side of that line your situation falls on.
Often, yes. Employers are strictly liable when a supervisor harasses you. For harassment by a coworker or non-employee, the employer is liable if it knew or should have known and failed to take reasonable steps to stop it.
You can still have a strong claim. Many people delay out of fear of retaliation, and the law recognizes that. A sexual harassment lawyer can explain a late report, and other evidence messages, witnesses, patterns often carries the case.
No. Retaliation for reporting harassment or cooperating in an investigation is illegal under California law and creates a separate claim with its own damages, on top of the harassment itself.
